2014 Post Race Thoughts

Thank you to all of the sponsors, runners and volunteers for making this race awesome!!  I think we all had a great time and we are certainly looking forward to next year!

Please check out our sponsors and support them so they can continue to support us!

I think our cooks were the highlight of the day - special thanks to ladies and gentlemen from the Thermal Belt Out Reach Ministries and Holy Cross Church for organizing the food and making such delicious dishes!!!!  THIS is what makes our race so special and we are so happy we are partners with them.

The course was fabulous this year.... a HUGE thanks to Dr. Todd Walters. He did several measurements of the course leading up to the race then organized the set up. He was the first one out on the course race morning putting up the tables and the signs. He printed out directions for the other volunteers so they could easily get the water and Gatorade where they needed to be. THEN, he came in and raced and came in SECOND OVERALL! To top it off he went out and picked up the tables!  I am so grateful for his dedication and energy! THANK YOU TODD!

So many others were there from the earliest morning hours until we locked the cabin that afternoon. There are too many names to call out and I wouldn't want to miss anyone.  We are truly a community event and everyone is so caring.

Now on to the runners... our runners are so enthusiastic about are race and it is growing each year due to word-of-mouth. Thank you!

We have so many fast runners every year and it just blow my mind!  You can see the full results here.

Our male overall winner was John Gamble from Greer, SC with a time of 1:20:16!  If you were there at the finishline you know he flying!  Congratulations John!

Our female overall winner was Kimberly Sweetland from Asheville, NC with a time of 1:28:43!

What impressed so many people were the kids running! We had NINE kids 15 and under this year. one of the, Noah White, 14, came in THIRD OVERALL with a time of 1:28:28!

2014 Tryon Half Marathon - COLD start!

We are going to have a COLD start for the Tryon Half Marathon Saturday!

Some people have asked about drop bags for extra clothes... our venue is small.. the start and finish lines are in the same general area. If you get there early you can probably keep warm in your car up until the start and change right away afterwards.

We will not have any mylar blankets for you at the finish so please make sure you have something warm to put on.
...
We WILL have a hot breakfast, coffee and hot chocolate for you. The cabin is warm and I am sure it will be crowded in there. More body heat to keep you warm!

Breakfast and Beer????

Our post-race breakfast is the highlight of race day! We have a whole bunch of wonderful cooks preparing breakfast casseroles of all sorts for our runners and volunteers.  For the past two years our runners have raved about the quality and quantity of the food!

This year to top off the festivities, local brewery Sierra Nevada will be onsite providing samples of their famous brew.  After you fill up on your breakfast you can enjoy some samples while awaiting the awards ceremony!  We are happy to have them as a sponsor this year - Thank you!

While many of you will be done with the race fairly early, we hope we provide enough reason to stay around for the awards ceremony. The awards will be given out at 11:00AM. We have beautiful hand-made pottery awards from local artist Jim Cornell. Please stick around!
